nails | minimal nail art

I thought it was high time I popped up a nail art tutorial!

it's been a little while since my last one, my nails had started to protest at the constant swatching/general beating I subject them too so I thought it best to give them some time out!

I've been going naked.. yup no polish.. it was a strange and confusing time for me but after a few weeks of tender lovin' care my mitts are a lot happier and so the polish has returned again!

I wanted to try something a little more understated, dare I say minimal? here's how I did it:

start out with a nude base coat and leave to dry fully, you'll add the white geometric shapes on top of this.

you can draw on the white shapes freehand using a long thin striping brush or you can use thin strips sellotape/washi/striping tape to mark off the shapes and simply paint inside (see pic below for example)

once the white shapes are fully dry, add another series of shapes in black.

if you use tape to mark out the shapes you'll get nice clean lines, it does take longer as you're cutting up and applying tape but the end result is a little neater. I'd recommend applying a coat of seche vite over your base coat to avoid damaging it before you use any type of tape.

you can however skip the tape and simply use a nail art pen/striping brush to paint the shapes, mine are mixture of freehand and taped.

once it's all dry seal with topcoat and admire your handiwork!

I'm pretty happy with them overall- have I gone mad or do you like this style too?

back soon!

  7. This is a really nice design Caroline, I like the shades you used. The design made me think of tiger stripes almost but with more of a Franz Marc feel to them, gosh that's going right back to high school art class...I feel old.
