I've been itching to try out the latest offering from the urban decay naked range... the basics palette!
I was really excited when I was asked if I wanted to review it by hq hair; I'd seen it cropping up on twitter and instagram and felt a little tingle of excitement when I discovered it was a matte collection (finally a palette that I may actually use on a daily basis.. yipee!)
I don't know what category you guys fall into when it comes to eye shadows.. I'm a mascara/big flick of eyeliner (al la fearne cotton) kinda gal. I love the look of metallic shimmery eyeshadow but they seem to transform me from girl next door to drag queen in one fell swoop so I tend to avoid them at all costs!
if you're a lover of shimmer/glitter/metallic this one probably isn't for you; I'd opt for the original naked palette or it's predecessor.
if like me you want to add definition without drawing attention then look no further; this is the one for you!

so the palette itself; well I have to say I'm a tad in love with the luxe finish on the case, it feels expensive and is a handy size (about the same as an iPhone) with a good sized mirror in the lid.
so onto the eye shadows!
there is one shimmery inclusion in this palette, a beautiful creamy off white called venus. I like to use this to highlight the inner corners of my eyes; I'd also use this on my browbones to widen my sleepy eyes!
foxy (yellow/beige) and walk of shame (nude/pink) are perfect everyday staples, very neutral (some may say boring) but classic, there isn't a huge difference between these two when I wear them.
naked 2 and faint are the mid/darker tones (what I'd use for the eye crease for definition) the darkest shade on offer is a matte black called crave; another handy essential for smokey eyes.
overall I love this pint sized addition to the range, pigment heavy, easy to work with and nicely presented! priced at £20 its worth every penny if you're going to use it regularly! one big thumbs up from me; this palette is officially my new daytime hero.
what do you guys think of the naked collections- is this one for you?

I do love my shimmers, but I've really barely tried any matte eyeshadows, so I really want this! xo
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great idea from Urban Decay and I love the fact that the colours are matte and natural. I think I would have preferred a dark brown to the black though as it would have been better for shading in with the other colours. Still a bargain at £20 though!

Great Caroline! The swatches make the colours look completely different than they do in the palette! That's changed my mind as i thought all the pale colour looked the same... I'm gonna have to buy this now! :)
