DIY | marble clipboard

today's DIY is crazy easy- contact paper is brilliant for quick little projects like this clipboard! it might be a blogger cliche but I really like marble accessories and I wanted to make something for my desk (because you know, stationery is the best.)

I've always loved clipboards, they're handy for holding daily to do lists and if you hang them up you've got yourself an instant wall organiser. I've recently started playing around with ink lettering so I've using mine like a lightweight easel- I can doodle on the sofa and catch up on netflix, winner.

materials needed:

marble contact paper (aka sticky back plastic)
craft knife

you want to cut out a piece of contact paper slightly larger than the size of your clipboard. to do this just lay your board on the contact paper and mark around it with a pencil- you'll need to add 1.5 inches extra on all sides so you have enough excess to wrap around the back of the board.

now the fun part! peel off about a third of the backing and place it sticky side down onto the clipboard. work from the bottom of the board upwards (imagine you are rolling out a carpet!) pull off the backing as you go and keep smoothing/pushing out air bubbles.

now when you reach the top you'll get to the metal clip- this is where you'll need to grab a craft knife and cut the contact paper to fit snugly. I had to hold the clip open with one hand and roll the paper right up to get the best fit. trim along the sides of the clip and fold the excess contact paper around the sides.

to get snug edges fold over the excess at the corners first then smooth over the rest. covering my clipboard took me about 10 minutes start to finish- easy peasy.

I think contact paper is an absolute gem, it's a really cheap way of updating furniture and accessories!

would you try this too?

back soon
